Milestone!!

Yesterday I posted my 100th post on this platform. And while that may not seem like a lot to some, that was a lot of work for me. I started this in January of 2022. That’s right. More than 2 years ago. There were periods where I just didn’t have things to write and there were times when I really got into it. And of course there were days when I wondered who is going to read anything I have to write?

Well despite the self doubt, I do have a few subscribers and now that I am in business I hope to inspire more. Over the last 7 years, I have done a great deal of self help. I have listened to audios, read self help books, been on teams with great leadership, found strength within. You name it, I have probably done some form of it. But somewhere in there, I have heard that getting to the first 100 of anything is the most difficult. You cant expect things to take off from your second post. or even your 50th.

So when I started this, my main thing was that I wasn’t going to quit or give up until I hit 100. We you hit publish and look at the posts, its hard not to think about getting to a goal faster. the last 10 post I really wanted to speed through just so I can say I made it. It is a small accomplishment but now I am motivated to keep going. My new goal is to do another 100 posts in 6 months. I feel that with my business and new topics coming up I am on a roll and can do this!

I hope that you will join me and interact with the posts that are coming! As I get more clients I am inspired to share their design challenges or the palettes that we come up with. As I continue to press forward and learn more I will also share the encouraging thoughts or word I hear. Daily life is our best inspiration and our best teacher. Come with me as I build more clients and color more spaces!! 200 posts here we come!

Abracadabra!!

Okay, Okay it might sound a bit cheesy. Most of the time when some one says that word a wand is waved or a rabbit is pulled from a hat. But what most people don’t know is the original Hebrew meaning of the word. And it goes much deeper than a magic wand.

In the original Hebrew, the word Abracadabra translates to “I create as I speak”. This resonates with me more even now that I am working on myself and this new business. The deep meaning truly is about the way that we speak to ourselves and our belief that we have a purpose.

Everyday, I remind myself that I am working toward a brighter future. For me, I am creating a business that will create a good life for my family. I am creating relationships that make me stronger. I am speaking into the universe, while visualizing and giving my best effort to build what a see.

Its a version, at least to me of “speaking your truth”. What I want out of this life is to know that I did the things I said I would to feel how I wanted. I am happy, I am blessed, I am loved. I built a home. I built a family. I made my dreams reality. Keep telling yourself the things you want to change, to do, or to have. Speak it into being.

Thru the woods…

Camping has been a family thing since before I could talk. Mom has pictures of me in a play pen in a tent. Luckily for me, both of my parents and both sets of grandparents had a thing for it. Dad’s parents had a camper and every summer they would drive out to our part of the country and take us kiddos out for a week or two to visit a state park or a new lake. We always had card or board games, camp fires and hot chocolate. I’m not so hot on burnt marshmallows.

Now that we are grow up its a bit harder to get the family together to go. And with all the new fancy trailers and campers it seems to have lost a little something. But given the chance to get out in nature, I will always opt for going. Our last adventure was a weekend get away up to Bryan Head and the Cedar City area of Utah. Its about 2.5 hours from Las Vegas. The elevation is higher and the trees are plentiful. We spent time hiking and enjoying the little lakes and streams up there.

This summer, I am hoping to do at least two camp trips. One would be a “glamping” trip with my boyfriend and his work buddies or with a few friends of mine. There is a glamping setup not far from Vegas also. They bring out the tents and the mattresses, even AC if requested. I am more for roughing it with sleeping bags but boyfriend likes his comfort. LOL Or we can have one of the friends hitch up the trailer and head up. Either way, the trees, the sounds, the smells and the stars are calling my name. I absolutely love star gazing.

The other one is less of camping and more of entertaining. My 6 year old nephew has been asking to hang out. Where I am staying now, we have a back yard that has artificial grass. I am going to grab a tent and we are going to have a backyard camping trip. We will have food and camp fire activities and we will sleep in the tent. He hasn’t slept outdoors before so it might be a bit hard to get him to sleep, he could be afraid. I have been out in the woods camping, and I still get a bit spooked from the different noises out there.

Anyways, its a summer activity that I highly recommend. There is nothing like taking a trip back into nature. The harmony and the slow pace really center you. Your mind clears from the clutter of work and bills and drama and you take in the beauty. It would be one thing I would do more if I had the time. There’s so many hikes, hills, lakes and rivers to be enjoyed and explored. But please remember to leave it better than you found it. Take the memories with you, leave some footprints and take whatever you brought with you. We only get one earth, keep it beautiful.

What I talk about…

Design. Specifically interior design. But you may have already picked up on this from my blog. Color is my favorite topic. and I am a color consultant. I go into people’s homes and businesses and help them make the selections that fit their unique style and vibe.

But also from my blog, I am distracted. In the sense that I can go from color to design, to nature walks and self help books. I love to discuss positive things, motivational things, higher ideals. The world we live in can be so negative and hard day to day that the way I choose to cope is spend time reading or listening to inspiring people, new places that I will get to one day, or even new design trends to bring into my home or yours.

That is what and why this blog is here for. I would love to discuss what inspires you. What’s your story and what does your home look like? If you have something you would like to change in it, what would it be? Please feel free to ask me color questions or home design questions. I am always up for a new design challenge especially if I can make you home/space flow better. It should be our place of Zen and comfort!

Risk Taking

Well I am in the middle of taking a risk right now. I left a steady 40hr/week job to go for my real estate license and to finally start my own business. The last 3 months have been new and challenging but I have never felt better working toward my dreams instead of clocking in to put money in someone else pocket.

I have a long way to go but I am getting into the swing of things. My state exam is being scheduled as we speak and when I have that I will be able to get on with a broker and start the journey to owning my own properties. For the business, my emails and mailers are gaining traction and I am starting to have customers calling. Its exciting!!

So for everyone out there, its scary, exciting, frustrating on some levels but it will be worth it in the long run. Working for yourself is the only way you will follow and reach your dreams. I am right her with you. I have up days and down days but no boss keeping me down!!

Small Kindness

To my random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively: I was out and doing deliveries today when I realized that I had parked in a weird spot. I was blocking the sanitation worker from aligning with the bins for trash day. I waited until he approached to ask if I could move my car or the bin so that he could get to it and do his job.

The man was absolutely shocked that I would not only take the time to do it but that I asked to help him at all. He was so genuine when he smiled and said thank you so much. He also told me that no one ever moves for him or notices that the job gets done.

I am glad that I could offer him some kindness and assistance. We forget to often that there are jobs that no one wants to do that are important. We look down on those jobs also. It just made me appreciate him and remember that everyone is valuable and special. I smiled and he smiled it was a good day.

The brand’s color palettes and design choices have become a popular source of inspiration for many homeowners and designers alike. If you’re looking to achieve a similar look for your space, here are some tips on creating a Restoration Hardware-inspired color palette.

1. Warm Neutrals

Restoration Hardware is known for its use of warm neutrals, such as beige, cream, and taupe. These colors create a sense of warmth and coziness in a space, making it inviting and comfortable. Consider using these warm neutrals as the base colors for your color palette.

2. Bronzed Metallics

To add a touch of luxury and sophistication to your space, incorporate bronzed metallics into your color palette. Brass, copper, and bronze accents can be used in lighting fixtures, hardware, and decorative accessories. These metallics add a subtle sheen and richness to the overall design.

3. Simple Lines and Materials

When it comes to furniture and decor, Restoration Hardware favors simple lines and materials. Look for pieces that have clean and minimalistic designs, such as streamlined sofas, sleek dining tables, and understated accessories. Materials like wood, linen, and leather are commonly used by the brand and can help you achieve that timeless and classic look.

Affordable Textures

While Restoration Hardware is known for its high-end products, you don’t have to break the bank to achieve a similar look. Look for affordable alternatives that mimic the textures used by the brand. By using warm neutrals, incorporating bronzed metallics, opting for simple lines and materials, and finding affordable textures, you can achieve a similar look and feel in your own home. Tips for Spicing Up Your Kitchen

Are you tired of your dull and boring kitchen? Do you want to give it a fresh and exciting look? Well, you’re in luck! Here are some simple yet effective tips to spice up your kitchen. Pun intended.

1. Add a Pop of Color

If you have glass doors on your cabinets, why not paint the back or add some wallpaper? This will instantly add a pop of color and personality to your kitchen. Choose a color or pattern that complements the overall theme of your kitchen and watch it come to life.

2. Upgrade Your Backsplash

If you’re not a fan of painted backsplashes, consider adding a tile or metallic backsplash. This will give your kitchen a modern and sophisticated look. You can even go for a luxurious marble backsplash if you want to add a touch of elegance. The options are endless, so choose something that suits your style and preferences.

3. Temporary Backsplash Options

Don’t want to commit to a permanent backsplash? No problem! There are peel and stick backsplash options available in the market. These are easy to install and remove, making them perfect for renters or those who like to change things up frequently. Explore different patterns and designs to find the one that speaks to you.

4. Illuminate Your Cabinets

Add some cabinet lighting to your upper cabinets or even on the toe kick. This will not only provide functional lighting but also create a warm and inviting ambiance in your kitchen. There are several types out there, commonly puck lights or strip lights, depending on the look you are going for. Choose LED lights for energy efficiency and opt for warm white or cool white depending on the mood you want to set. And if you are feeling fun or like something extra try RGB LED lights and enjoy the rainbow settings.

5. Find a Statement Light Fixture

A colorful light fixture can instantly become the focal point of your kitchen. Look for one with colored glass or a unique design that adds a touch of personality. Whether you choose a bold pendant light or a chandelier, make sure it complements the overall style of your kitchen and adds that wow factor. You can even go with a metallic that could match your hardware.

6. Upgrade Your Hardware

Don’t underestimate the power of hardware in transforming the look of your kitchen. Consider changing up the handles or knobs on your cabinets and drawers. Opt for matte finishes for a sleek and modern look or go for decorative handles to add a touch of elegance. This small change can make a big difference in the overall aesthetic of your kitchen.

So, there you have it! These simple tips can help you spice up your kitchen and make it a place you love spending time in. Remember, it’s all about adding your personal touch and creating a space that reflects your style and personality. Happy decorating!

When you get stuck…

I am sure that I cannot be the only one who has been chugging along, everything seems to be going fine and then all of sudden your brains says nope. It just stops forward motion and falls through the Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole of doom. Its where all the self doubts, the negative thoughts, the ridiculous unlikely scenarios come out to play and just freeze you in your tracks.

It has happened to me three times this week. Walking around in a mental funk, going through the motions, not really working or focusing on anything. I am not really sure what is causing the malfunction here but I am trying some things to get back on track.

Getting outdoors- There has been some really amazing weather days lately. Some with rain clouds sprinkled in the sunshine. And some like today where there are now clouds for miles and the its the perfect temperature. So we went for a walk today. My little dog Kona and I. Her cute tail wagging and her prancing little steps always bring a smile to my face.

Spring cleaning- I bet for most this does not sound like a way to get out of your fuck but more like a chore. And I can honestly say that it does in fact sound like a chore. But sometimes what you need is a physical activity that doesn’t require much thought. For me today I did my laundry that has been piling up, cleaned up my office and refreshed my room with clean sheets and clutter clean up. And you know what happened? I feel like I accomplished something. I like the mess being gone and I feel like when I get up tomorrow I will be excited to get back into my normal routine.

Watch something completely cheesy- I don’t know if I have brought this up before but I love watching Mel Brooks movies. Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Blazing Saddles. All of them are far from PC and slapstick nonsense funny. Then you have other kinds of cheesy like Get Smart with Steve Carell, Pink Panther with Steve Martin, or violent over the top like Red with Bruce Willis or Fast X. I mean for that series who else can they bring back from the dead or blow up? This week despite it being already planned on one of my funk days, was a different kind of cult classic cheesy with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A giant angry monkey trapped in the earth’s core, on a quest to destroy mankind goes against a telepathic human girl, a robotically enhanced gorilla, a purple angry dinosaur and a huge winged bug in a no gravity battle. Talk about being over the top cheesy.

Go to Audios- I have a list but the goofy audio that I am hooked on right now is on Spotify. Its called “We’re here to help” with Jake Johnson form the show New Girl and his friend Gareth Reynolds. These two guys offer their opinions and what we think you should do to callers with some pretty weird scenarios. Now matter what the callers question, just the commentary alone will have you cracking up. The best part is the follow ups to know if the caller took the advice or suggestions and what the outcome was. This is the latest episode I listened to. I want to know what happened with the brown haired radio intern and her happy birthday accident.

Get the snack- I have my moments when I am going strong on an eating plan or a diet. Choosing water over soda, carrots over cookies and on and on. I mean you know how it goes. But when you are in a funk who wants to eat the good stuff right? I am not promoting good discipline here, and the self help side of me says don’t give in. My flawed human, immediate gratification side says I will be happy if I get this snack now. I totally gave in to baking cinnamon rolls at 7 pm on Thursday when I just wanted a sweet snack after a rough day. Thank you Pillsbury for making them oven friendly and so delicious. I did share them btw just so you know I didn’t go off the rails. lol

Do the Workout – part of my funk is the allergies that have been kicking my butt because of our lovely spring weather and the rounds of blooms. I was laid up two weeks ago, still a lingering cough and a bit tired. But movement is good for the body and mind. I opted for two Hotworx classes last night. They were not easy given the circumstances but after I felt much better. working out is more mental than physical for sure. You have to tell your body you can push through and its way easier to stop than keep going. The last 5 minutes was 5 minutes of inner monologue repeating I can do this, just a few minutes.

http://www.hotworx.com

This is my second blog post for today. The first was my last blog for the Spring Series of colors that I have been working on. When I got up I had no intention or motivation to do much let alone what I have accomplished today including that post. The things I did do today may not have put me closer to my goals or bring me completely back to the light but overall I feel better and ready to start tomorrow un-stuck. I hope that some of these will help you get out of your mud and back on track to. If you think I have missed some good ideas please share!! I would love new tips!!
