Creating a Dream Scape Room

Inspiration for a Dream Scape Room

This week, two things came to mind that inspired me to create a dream scape room. First, the cloudy days made me crave a cozy space to snuggle up in. Second, two of my cousins are pregnant and they are having baby showers, which got me thinking about creating a special area for the little ones.

Creating Calm

To create a calming atmosphere, it is important to choose the right shade of gray. Grays can come in different shades and undertones, but for this particular space, it is recommended to use cool grays with a bluish hue. These shades of gray, when combined with the warm glow of the lighting, will help to create a soothing and relaxing ambiance. The cool grays will bring a sense of tranquility to the room, while the bluish undertones will add a touch of serenity. The overall effect will be a space that evokes a calm and peaceful feel, perfect for unwinding and finding rest.

Cozy Seating for Rocking Baby or for Reading

One of the main features of this dream scape room will be a cozy sitting area. This space will be perfect for snuggling up with a good book or for spending quality time with the baby. I envision a comfortable armchair or a plush sofa, adorned with soft blankets and pillows. I might even suggest a swinging chair, more for an adult nook space. Woven or Boho style baskets or hampers can be close by for baby clothes or reading blankets and pillows.

Build-in Shelves for Books or Baby Things

To make the room both practical and stylish, I plan to include built-in shelves. These shelves will serve a dual purpose – they can be used to display books for the avid reader or to store baby essentials for the new parents. Adding in closed cabinets for things that are not everyday use will keep the clutter at a minimum. The shelves will be designed to blend seamlessly with the overall aesthetic of the room, using cool whites and incorporating soft grays/blue hues into the back panels. Frosted or tinted glass could also enhance the soft look.

Fluffy Textures, Cool Colors and Stars

To create a dreamy atmosphere, I will incorporate fluffy textures throughout the room. Think plush rugs, soft curtains, and cozy blankets. The color palette will consist of whites, cool grays, and hints of blue. These colors will be reminiscent of cloudy skies and will create a serene and calming ambiance. To add a touch of magic, I will also incorporate star motifs, whether through wallpaper, decals, or artwork.

Warm Lighting for a Glow and an Inviting Feel

Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood of a room. In this dream scape room, I will use warm lighting to create a soft glow. This will make the space feel inviting and cozy. I will incorporate various light fixtures, such as sconces or pendant lights, to add a touch of elegance to the room. Fairy lights, crystal lights or twinkle lights could be added for magical touches.

Brushed Nickel and Crystal Hardware

To add a touch of sophistication, use silver or crystal hardware for the cabinets. You could even incorporate a design knob. This will elevate the overall design and give the room a luxurious feel. This finish can also be used for artwork, photo frames and additional decorative pieces placed on the shelving. The sleek and modern appearance will complement the rest of the room’s aesthetic.

In conclusion, creating a dream scape room inspired by cloudy days and the anticipation of new arrivals can result in a cozy and magical space. By incorporating cozy seating, built-in shelves, fluffy textures, a serene color palette, warm lighting, and elegant hardware, the room will become a haven for relaxation, reading, and dreaming. You can find these items in my Amazon Shop should any of them be a wonderful addition to your relaxation room. They will be posted later this week.

Stay tuned for more Whimsical Palettes this week!!

Milestone!!

Yesterday I posted my 100th post on this platform. And while that may not seem like a lot to some, that was a lot of work for me. I started this in January of 2022. That’s right. More than 2 years ago. There were periods where I just didn’t have things to write and there were times when I really got into it. And of course there were days when I wondered who is going to read anything I have to write?

Well despite the self doubt, I do have a few subscribers and now that I am in business I hope to inspire more. Over the last 7 years, I have done a great deal of self help. I have listened to audios, read self help books, been on teams with great leadership, found strength within. You name it, I have probably done some form of it. But somewhere in there, I have heard that getting to the first 100 of anything is the most difficult. You cant expect things to take off from your second post. or even your 50th.

So when I started this, my main thing was that I wasn’t going to quit or give up until I hit 100. We you hit publish and look at the posts, its hard not to think about getting to a goal faster. the last 10 post I really wanted to speed through just so I can say I made it. It is a small accomplishment but now I am motivated to keep going. My new goal is to do another 100 posts in 6 months. I feel that with my business and new topics coming up I am on a roll and can do this!

I hope that you will join me and interact with the posts that are coming! As I get more clients I am inspired to share their design challenges or the palettes that we come up with. As I continue to press forward and learn more I will also share the encouraging thoughts or word I hear. Daily life is our best inspiration and our best teacher. Come with me as I build more clients and color more spaces!! 200 posts here we come!

Abracadabra!!

Okay, Okay it might sound a bit cheesy. Most of the time when some one says that word a wand is waved or a rabbit is pulled from a hat. But what most people don’t know is the original Hebrew meaning of the word. And it goes much deeper than a magic wand.

In the original Hebrew, the word Abracadabra translates to “I create as I speak”. This resonates with me more even now that I am working on myself and this new business. The deep meaning truly is about the way that we speak to ourselves and our belief that we have a purpose.

Everyday, I remind myself that I am working toward a brighter future. For me, I am creating a business that will create a good life for my family. I am creating relationships that make me stronger. I am speaking into the universe, while visualizing and giving my best effort to build what a see.

Its a version, at least to me of “speaking your truth”. What I want out of this life is to know that I did the things I said I would to feel how I wanted. I am happy, I am blessed, I am loved. I built a home. I built a family. I made my dreams reality. Keep telling yourself the things you want to change, to do, or to have. Speak it into being.

Level Up Your Stairs with Stylish Finishes and Materials

My client today was getting her new home ready for their move in. They had already removed and replaced new flooring, I was there for for the paint selections, and last on her list was what should be done with the stairs. We discussed options, some of which are below. Hopefully, these will give you some inspiration for your grand staircase!

Enhance Your Stairs with a Carpet Runner

If you’re looking to level up the look of your stairs, consider adding a carpet runner. While carpet is nice, a carpet runner can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your staircase. Not only does it provide a stylish finish, but it also protects your stairs from wear and tear.

Opt for a Wood Finish or Paint

When choosing a carpet runner, you have the option to add a wood finish or paint to your stairs. This allows you to create a two-toned look with different finishes for the treads and risers. For example, you can have the treads in a rich wood finish while the risers are painted in a complementary color. This adds visual interest and dimension to your staircase.

Explore Different Materials for Treads

Gone are the days when treads were limited to just wood. Nowadays, you can choose from a variety of materials for your treads, including vinyl and other flooring materials. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for your staircase design. By keeping the materials consistent on both levels, you can create a seamless and cohesive look throughout your home.

Consider Wooden or Decorative Metal Balusters and Posts

When it comes to balusters and posts, you have the choice between wooden or decorative metal options. Wooden balusters and posts offer a classic and timeless look, while decorative metal adds a modern and contemporary touch. Consider the overall style of your home and choose the option that best complements your aesthetic.

Opt for Dark Metal or Painted Handrails

To complete the look of your staircase, pay attention to the handrails. Dark metal or dark painted handrails are currently on-trend and can provide a modern twist to a traditional piece. This contrast adds visual interest and creates a focal point in your staircase design.

Go Truly Modern or Contemporary Look with Steel

For a truly modern update, transform your stairs by ditching the traditional handrails and posts. Instead, opt for the sleek industrial look with steel railings. This contemporary choice will instantly revamp your staircase and give it a fresh, edgy vibe. Steel railings exude a sense of modernity and sophistication, adding a touch of elegance to any space. Not only do they provide a sturdy support system for those using the stairs, but they also serve as a statement piece, creating a focal point in your home. Whether you prefer a minimalist design or something more intricate, steel railings can be customized to suit your aesthetic preferences. So, say goodbye to the outdated and embrace the modernity of steel railings for a stunning staircase transformation.

By following these tips, you can level up the look of your stairs and transform them into a stunning focal point in your home. Whether you choose a carpet runner, experiment with different materials, or play with contrasting finishes, your staircase will become a true statement piece.

Thru the woods…

Camping has been a family thing since before I could talk. Mom has pictures of me in a play pen in a tent. Luckily for me, both of my parents and both sets of grandparents had a thing for it. Dad’s parents had a camper and every summer they would drive out to our part of the country and take us kiddos out for a week or two to visit a state park or a new lake. We always had card or board games, camp fires and hot chocolate. I’m not so hot on burnt marshmallows.

Now that we are grow up its a bit harder to get the family together to go. And with all the new fancy trailers and campers it seems to have lost a little something. But given the chance to get out in nature, I will always opt for going. Our last adventure was a weekend get away up to Bryan Head and the Cedar City area of Utah. Its about 2.5 hours from Las Vegas. The elevation is higher and the trees are plentiful. We spent time hiking and enjoying the little lakes and streams up there.

This summer, I am hoping to do at least two camp trips. One would be a “glamping” trip with my boyfriend and his work buddies or with a few friends of mine. There is a glamping setup not far from Vegas also. They bring out the tents and the mattresses, even AC if requested. I am more for roughing it with sleeping bags but boyfriend likes his comfort. LOL Or we can have one of the friends hitch up the trailer and head up. Either way, the trees, the sounds, the smells and the stars are calling my name. I absolutely love star gazing.

The other one is less of camping and more of entertaining. My 6 year old nephew has been asking to hang out. Where I am staying now, we have a back yard that has artificial grass. I am going to grab a tent and we are going to have a backyard camping trip. We will have food and camp fire activities and we will sleep in the tent. He hasn’t slept outdoors before so it might be a bit hard to get him to sleep, he could be afraid. I have been out in the woods camping, and I still get a bit spooked from the different noises out there.

Anyways, its a summer activity that I highly recommend. There is nothing like taking a trip back into nature. The harmony and the slow pace really center you. Your mind clears from the clutter of work and bills and drama and you take in the beauty. It would be one thing I would do more if I had the time. There’s so many hikes, hills, lakes and rivers to be enjoyed and explored. But please remember to leave it better than you found it. Take the memories with you, leave some footprints and take whatever you brought with you. We only get one earth, keep it beautiful.

Tips for Creating a Space for Your Dog

As we are welcoming two husky puppies into the family, my thoughts go to making space for them. When creating a space for your dog, it’s important to consider their comfort and convenience. Here are some tips to help you create the perfect dog-friendly area:

Choose Easy-to-Clean Materials

Dogs can be messy, so it’s important to choose materials that are easy to clean. Opt for flooring that is resistant to scratches and stains, such as laminate or tile. Avoid carpets, as they can absorb odors and be difficult to clean. When selecting furniture, look for materials that are durable and can be easily wiped down, such as leather or microfiber.

Provide a Comfortable Bed

Dog beds come in various sizes and styles. Consider your dog’s size and preferences when selecting a bed. Some dogs prefer beds that are elevated on platforms, while others prefer beds that are on the floor. If there is a dedicate space or wall they can be built in with cushions. Make sure the bed is large enough for your dog to stretch out comfortably. Additionally, choose a bed with a removable cover for easy cleaning.

Choose the Right Food and Water Bowls

When it comes to food and water bowls, there are many options available. Consider your dog’s size and height when selecting the right bowls. Elevated bowls can be beneficial for larger dogs or those with joint issues, as they reduce strain on their neck and back. Additionally, choose bowls that are easy to clean and dishwasher-safe for convenience.

Include Storage for Supplies

Having a designated storage area for your dog’s food, grooming supplies, and other essentials is an absolute must. Consider adding at least one cabinet with a drawer to store food, treats, and medications. This will help keep everything organized and easily accessible. Include shelves or baskets for storing grooming tools, toys, and other supplies. If there is limited space, there are combination food and storage units like this one.

Hang a Hook Rack for Leashes and Gear

A mounted hook rack is a convenient addition to your dog’s space. Hang leashes, collars, raincoats, and any other gear you may have for your pup. This will help keep everything tidy and easily accessible when you need it. Consider placing the hook rack near the entrance or in a convenient location within the dog’s area.

By following these tips, you can create a comfortable and functional space for your dog. Remember to consider their needs and preferences when selecting materials and furniture. A well-designed dog space will not only make your furry friend happy but also make your life easier as a pet owner.

What I talk about…

Design. Specifically interior design. But you may have already picked up on this from my blog. Color is my favorite topic. and I am a color consultant. I go into people’s homes and businesses and help them make the selections that fit their unique style and vibe.

But also from my blog, I am distracted. In the sense that I can go from color to design, to nature walks and self help books. I love to discuss positive things, motivational things, higher ideals. The world we live in can be so negative and hard day to day that the way I choose to cope is spend time reading or listening to inspiring people, new places that I will get to one day, or even new design trends to bring into my home or yours.

That is what and why this blog is here for. I would love to discuss what inspires you. What’s your story and what does your home look like? If you have something you would like to change in it, what would it be? Please feel free to ask me color questions or home design questions. I am always up for a new design challenge especially if I can make you home/space flow better. It should be our place of Zen and comfort!

Risk Taking

Well I am in the middle of taking a risk right now. I left a steady 40hr/week job to go for my real estate license and to finally start my own business. The last 3 months have been new and challenging but I have never felt better working toward my dreams instead of clocking in to put money in someone else pocket.

I have a long way to go but I am getting into the swing of things. My state exam is being scheduled as we speak and when I have that I will be able to get on with a broker and start the journey to owning my own properties. For the business, my emails and mailers are gaining traction and I am starting to have customers calling. Its exciting!!

So for everyone out there, its scary, exciting, frustrating on some levels but it will be worth it in the long run. Working for yourself is the only way you will follow and reach your dreams. I am right her with you. I have up days and down days but no boss keeping me down!!

Transforming Your Home: From Beige to White Elegance

From Beige to White: Adding Warmth and Style to Your Home

Are you tired of the dull and lifeless beige walls in your home? Do you want to create a fresh and inviting space without making it feel sterile? Look no further than the timeless elegance of white walls. Whether you prefer warm whites or cool whites, this versatile color can transform your home into a modern and refreshing sanctuary.

Choosing the Right Shade of White

When it comes to white walls, there are countless shades to choose from. Warm whites, with their undertones of cream or beige, can add a cozy and inviting atmosphere to any room. On the other hand, cool whites, with hints of blue or gray, can create a modern and clean aesthetic. The key is to find the perfect balance that suits your personal style and complements your existing decor.

Using White as a Canvas

One of the greatest advantages of white walls is the endless possibilities they offer for adding accents and personal touches. By using white as a base, you can easily incorporate pops of color, patterns, and textures to create a unique and personalized space. Whether you prefer a modern farmhouse look or an airy boho style, white walls provide the perfect backdrop for your creativity to shine.

For a modern farmhouse vibe, consider pairing your white walls with rustic wooden furniture, vintage accessories, and cozy textiles. This combination creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that is both timeless and on-trend. On the other hand, if you’re drawn to the airy boho style, combine your white walls with natural materials, such as rattan or jute, and add pops of greenery for a fresh and organic feel.

Popular White Paint Brands

When it comes to choosing the perfect shade of white, there are a few popular paint brands that are known for their quality and extensive range of white hues. Dunn Edwards and Sherwin Williams are two such brands that offer a wide selection of whites to suit every taste and style. From warm off-whites to cool crisp whites, these brands have you covered.

Remember, when selecting a white paint, it’s essential to test it in different lighting conditions and against your existing decor. The right shade of white can make all the difference in creating the desired atmosphere and ambiance in your home.

In conclusion, transitioning from beige to white walls can breathe new life into your home. Whether you opt for warm or cool whites, white walls provide a blank canvas for your creativity to flourish. With the right accents and personal touches, you can transform your space into a modern and inviting sanctuary. So, why wait? Embrace the beauty of white and embark on a journey of style and warmth.
