Transform Your Bedroom with Simple Changes

Refresh Your Bedroom with Simple Changes

Is your bedroom feeling a bit dull and uninspiring? It’s time for a refresh! You don’t need to spend a fortune or completely overhaul the space to breathe new life into your bedroom. With a few simple changes, you can create a cozy and inviting atmosphere that you’ll love spending time in. Here are some easy ideas to get you started:

Change Up Your Bed

Your bed is the focal point of your bedroom, so why not give it a fresh look? Consider swapping out your bedspread for one in a different color or texture. A new spread can instantly transform the vibe of your room. Opt for a vibrant color to add a pop of excitement or choose a soft, textured fabric for a touch of luxury. You’ll be amazed at how this simple change can make your bed feel brand new.

Let the Light In

Don’t underestimate the power of natural light in creating a bright and airy space. Open up those windows and let the sunshine in. If you currently have heavy blackout drapes, consider switching to sheer curtains or lighter-colored window treatments. These will allow more light to filter through and create a more cheerful and inviting atmosphere in your bedroom.

Add Some Flair with Pillows and Blankets

When it comes to pillows and blankets, more is more! You can never have enough options for layering and styling your bed. Experiment with different colors, patterns, and textures to create a cozy and inviting look. Mix and match pillows of different sizes and shapes, and don’t forget to add a few throw blankets for extra warmth and style. These small additions can make a big impact on the overall aesthetic of your bedroom.

Bring in New Decor

To truly refresh your bedroom, consider adding some new decor pieces. This could be anything from vases and books to wall art or even a new plant. These little touches can add personality and style to your space. Choose items that reflect your taste and make you feel happy and inspired. Whether it’s a unique piece of artwork or a trendy plant, these additions will breathe new life into your bedroom.

Switch Up Your Flooring

If you have wood or tiled floors in your bedroom, consider switching out that heavy wool rug for a jute or woven rug. These natural fiber rugs add warmth and texture to your space, making it feel cozy and inviting. Plus, they are perfect for creating a bohemian or coastal vibe in your bedroom. With a new rug underfoot, you’ll feel like you’re stepping into a whole new room.

Refreshing your bedroom doesn’t have to be a daunting task. By making these simple changes, you can transform your space into a cozy and inviting sanctuary. So go ahead, give your bedroom the refresh it deserves!

From Las Vegas to New Jersey

Daily writing prompt
Think back on your most memorable road trip.

This one is an easy one for me. Almost 15 years ago, my sister and I took a 2 week road trip across country and I could definitely do it again. I was moving back east for college and I wanted to do something fun. We planned a route on a paper map (yes paper) and planned and found some interesting stops along the way.

We are very random when it comes to what keeps our interest. There are famous places along the way and just nonsense. Ill break these down.

Salt Palace in Salt Lake Utah.

Old Faithful in Yellowstone

Crazy Horse Memorial Sioux Falls in South Dakota -we saw Rushmore too.

Pizza Doctors in La Crosse WI- we did see the worlds largest six pack but I cant find the image ๐Ÿ™‚

Palace #2 Corn place made somewhere in the midwest

And Lambeau Field

We have taken other road trips since but this one sticks in my head. We had a plan and a timeline but we hit random places as they came up. We got rained out of a camping site on one of the days, but mom had stuffed a visa in the glove box that covered the hotel.

We also camped over night in a teepee, found the most random store with a million teddy bears for a collection, hit mall of America, went to the Rock n Roll hall of fame and picked up my cousin in Michigan.

I really hope that sooner or later we will plan and take another one. There are many road still to take and places in the US that I want to visit. If you have some worlds largest, or killer places to stop to eat, or great views, Drop them here. I will add to the possibilities list!!

Thru Design and Color

Daily writing prompt
How are you creative?

Part of me, this blog included has always been creative. Not in the create stories or discover new things way. But more in the home and style way. Or maybe even in the arts and crafts, homemade Halloween outfit way.

I like to see new home design trends and to build new color palettes. I love to see other peoples homes and offices and see from others what catches my eye. Sometimes it is 100% trial and error. Not every design will work or flow.

But for this week, I let the creative kind of run free. A friend of mine has a massage studio that she just started to rent out and she wanted to create some flare. We looked at a couple of different ideas and then we put our own spin on them. Not quite out of the box but we liked the look.

She wanted to keep the main wall color and add in gold and black. I thought we needed one more light color but since we didnt get the full picture till the day of we worked with 3. We positioned the tape on the wall as we went and we intentionally kept the gold over spray to give the black some dimension. Other than the headache from the spray paint I think it turned out great.

Happy client, fun project. Hoping to do more of these this next year!

Seems to me its running out

Daily writing prompt
Do you need time?

I cant seem to get a handle on the way time is flying by. We are at the bottom innings of 2025 and I feel like I am one run behind the winning team. I’m not much of a baseball fan unless I am sitting in the stadium but I hope that metaphor makes enough sense.

I am t-minus 9 days away from my 3rd and last vacation of the year and I am mentally and physically not ready for the much needed break. You see, I have been extra focused on not slowing down business because business is slow. That might sound weird but some companies lay of the gas for the fourth quarter while others double down. I am doubling down on my marketing efforts so that business is still coming in and it springs forward come 2025. Slow times are great for system and strategy building, refocusing etc.

This week, 5 out of 7 days have color consults. I am up from two a week to five. New ads on yelp and facebook, google and even instagram have been gaining momentum. I am only looking at those four socials and I am finding the time it takes even with AI is hard for me. I have list of ideas and minutes to get things up between meetings, school pick ups and parents having surgeries. I need much more time to keep the momentum going with new inspiration and real time talk. Oh yeah and sleep. Its important but Im not getting much lately.

I havent hit all my goals for October, that just ended. Or the ones that I am working towards for end of year. I see Christmas approaching so fast and I cant seem to get past work to enjoy the things that are coming up. At the bare minimum I plan to turn business off for one week of rest and day drinking on a cruise. And then as we get closer to Dec 25th a family cookie night.

If any one has found a way to slow time down, please, please, please let me know. I am doing my best to do one thing at a time and focus on one day at a time. Enjoying the fun times with my nephew and enjoying the quiet times of reflection. But I legit cant wait to see bright blue clear waters and a bahama mamma in my hand. Hope time is working in your favor ๐Ÿ™‚

Is Lime Wash Coming Back?

What Is Limewash? A Modern, Warm Take on a Timeless Technique

Limewash is one of the oldest paint finishes in the world, used for thousands of years by cultures like the Greeks and Romans. Itโ€™s made from natural materialsโ€”slaked lime, water, and mineral pigmentsโ€”so it creates a soft, matte finish that feels warm, calming, and breathable. Unlike regular paint, limewash actually sinks into the surface, giving it that cloudy, layered look everyone loves right now.

How Limewash Works

Hereโ€™s the modern homeowner version:

  • Prep matters. The walls need to be clean and smooth so the limewash can absorb properly.
  • Itโ€™s mixed by hand. Lime powder and water are blended with natural pigments to create your custom color.
  • Itโ€™s applied in thin layers. Each coat dries with soft movement and texture, giving the space a cozy, lived-in feel.
  • It ages beautifully. Limewash isnโ€™t supposed to look perfect โ€” thatโ€™s the charm.

Why Homeowners Are Loving It Right Now

Limewash fits perfectly with todayโ€™s warm, modern aesthetic. It adds depth and softness without feeling heavy or overly textured. It also pairs beautifully with:

  • Warm greys โ€” cozy, elegant, and calm
  • Soft lavenders โ€” subtle, modern, and surprisingly neutral
  • Natural woods + warm metals โ€” gold, champagne bronze, walnut

If you want walls that feel warm, relaxed, and effortlessly elevated, limewash is an incredible option.

Trending Colors for a Warm Modern Home

For clients searching for a modern-but-soft vibe, I often recommend:

  • Warm greys with gentle movement
  • Lavender-gray washes for a serene, elevated feel
  • Soft clay and mushroom tones for a more organic look

These tones glow beautifully in natural light and instantly make a room feel more intentional.

The Bottom Line

Limewash gives you a finish that looks high-end without feeling fussy โ€” perfect for homeowners who want something modern, warm, and full of character. Itโ€™s a timeless technique that works beautifully in todayโ€™s design styles.

Curious, Smart and Funny

Daily writing prompt
Describe a family member.

There’s this cool kid that I know. He’s the best nephew anyone could have and I get to spend three days a week with him. Sometimes those days are long or busy or even obnoxious but I wouldnt trade having him around while he thinks Im the fun Auntie.

Curious

This little dude has me on the ropes all the time. I never know what he is going to ask or want to do on the daily. He is super curious about everything, from owls to food to what I am doing for work. If he is interested in something he asks me to look up images or videos on youtube. This week the topics were Owls and and new ride he wants to go on at the pumpkin patch, the Zipper. He says it isnt for him yet but it will be when he is bigger. ๐Ÿ™‚ Always more to learn.

Smart

Although we might not be the smartest of adults, we really try to teach Booger to think thru what he wants to do, how he does his homework, how he treats his friends. This kid isnt a genius mathematician but math is his favorite and hes getting really good at the harder word problems. He can read a room and chime in with our adult conversations, does get him in trouble sometimes but he listens and learns so much. I have watched him think through logically what order he wants to do chores, homework, dinner and bath time- and he gave me reasons for why the order. I forget sometimes that I am talking to a 7 year old because he talks so smart. And reading?! He has met his semester goal in two months and should really be reading at a 3rd or 4th grade level. Makes me proud.

Funny

There is no doubt that Booger has inherited our sense of humor and sarcasm. From the c’mon Bruhs to the dad jokes this kid cracks me up. He has an infectious giggle, the best when he cracks up at his own jokes. He pays around with us and has one liners that just hit right on queue. His little personality is so fun to watch and I really hope he keeps up the quick wit and the come backs.

I have other family around me. My parents, sister/brother in law and extended, all of which I love and enjoy their company. But for right now, seeing this little dude so proud of learning to ride a bike with no training wheels, crush his reading, enjoy being a kid, helping me with the instructions and bake together, well, that’s the fun part of my day. Hope you have a kid to watch, yours or a niece or nephew. We all need that kid life in big or little doses.

Got to go for a High Rise job this week.

I got called for a client that just purchased a high rise condo on the north west side of the strip. It is always fun for me to get to go into these higher cleintele locations and see just what is out there waiting for me. This couple just wanted to keep things simple, two maybe three colors. And that is what we did. But it gave me some other thoughts for those that might have their own project like this.

So below are the five tips I came up with if you or someone you know has the opportunity to enjoy the view from above. Hope you will pass them on ๐Ÿ™‚

5 Tips for Redecorating a High-Rise Condo

This weekโ€™s inspiration came from helping a power couple redesign their new high-rise overlooking the Las Vegas Strip. They wanted to capture the energy of the city without overwhelming the space โ€” elegant by day, electric by night. Hereโ€™s how we did it (and how you can, too!):

Tip #1 Neutral walls let the view shine.
For their living area, we kept the walls by the windows a warm, soft neutral so the Strip lights became the main feature.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Try this: If you have a stunning city view, go subtle on color near the windows โ€” it naturally frames the skyline like a piece of art.

Tip #2 Lighting is your secret weapon.
Their condo had great windows but limited overhead light, so we layered floor lamps, sconces, and pendants to keep things bright and moody when needed.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Try this: Mix lighting sources โ€” ambient, accent, and task โ€” to create dimension and highlight your favorite areas.

Tip #3 Pops of color bring personality.
We used deep navy and gold accents to reflect the nighttime city vibe, adding a playful balance to the neutral backdrop.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Try this: Add bold color through art, pillows, or one statement wall โ€” it keeps things lively without feeling cluttered.

Tip #4 Scale matters โ€” less is luxe.
Instead of oversized sectionals, we chose sleek seating for four and a compact dining table for two that still feels open and inviting.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Try this: Choose pieces that fit your space comfortably โ€” airy silhouettes and smaller groupings keep the room feeling spacious.

Tip #5 Mirror the magic of your view.
We tied in the skyline with metallic artwork that shimmered like the Strip lights at night.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Try this: Select artwork or dรฉcor that echoes your surroundings โ€” whether thatโ€™s city lights, desert tones, or sky-inspired abstracts.

Let your space tell your story โ€” balance sophistication with the sparkle of the city you love.

What did you do for your aging dog?

Our Ozzie-dog is almost 16 years old. He is a Chihuahua Pincher mix and he has really started to show his age. Normally jumping on and off the sofas and barking at anything that moves, he barely notices anything anymore. He is napping now most of the day and constantly has to be next to one of us.

We live in a second story apartment. Taking him out has always been pretty simple up until recently. The millisecond we got even close to the stairs he would be down them at the door. Now he hesitates. About a year ago, we noticed a lump on his stomach and we had it checked. The vet didnt seem concerned. In the last two months it has tripled in size. The blood work hasnt given us a definitive answer yet and its even more expensive to get the biopsy.

He has been a good boy and we can see just how much slower, blinder and more deaf he has gotten. We think that he might make it thru the end of the year but he needs full time watching now. He used to love his crate but now if he is in it he howls and cries. Since he really cant see much he is bumping into walls and falling off the bed. Don’t worry its a low bed and he always sleeps with one of us but he is restless.

So I am curious what any of you have done when your dog got to this point. This is our first dog to have to let go of. We love him, he isn’t suffering, doesn’t seem to be in pain just that functions are starting to fail. We can install a baby gate so he cant fall down the stairs. We have switched to soft food for him but practically have to hand feed it to him. We also cant always be home with him.

Its not easy to think about him going but we do want to love him as long as we can. When did you decide if it was time to take your dog in? Or did you make them comfortable? What did you get for them for food or for comfort? Ive seen others take them out for their favorite snack or to their favorite park for the last time.

Maybe I’m overthinking this or maybe I’m just a bit sad today. But if you guys have any ideas or can share any experiences, especially if you have kids that were attached to your pet please share. My nephew has said that he doesn’t want Ozzie to go. I hope we have my nephew when the dog goes but he is part time with his dad.

Anyways, please share your story or your dog pictures. They are here for a short time but give us all the love.

It was a surprise to me!

Daily writing prompt
What food would you say is your specialty?

I would not consider myself a top chef. My skills are maybe above average but way below a Michelin star. The boyfriend likes my food so at least I have that going for me. I have always just added flavors as I cooked, or pulled a recipe that sounded delicious from Pinterest. Sometimes I get inspired by other things though.

Recently, our weekend date night has been to watch a Netflix show and cook together. The inspiration for the cooking has came from the show itself. We have been watching Bon Appetit, Your Majesty- a Korean drama show. The leading character who is a chef, travels back in time and ends up being the chef for a Tyrant king in the Josean era Korea. I wont say much more but she creates good dishes for the king and runs into political and heart trouble.

My take away here, is that I have been making similar dishes to the ones that she creates for the King. Seeing all the food cooked and then characters over the top reactions to the flavor got me wanting to try some. I have been to plenty of Korean restaurants, but have never really cooked any Korean food. So I looked up popular Korean dishes. This article had some good ones in it.

The picture above is my latest. I followed a recipe (loosely) for this Tteokbokki-Style Gnocchi. I added chicken for protein, chili powder for more of a kick and cashews for a bit of crunch. I have found that I really like Gochujang, which is Korean Chili Paste. I also made a really delicious Gochujang soup with tofu and diakon radishes. The broth was so good and I had just the right mix of ingredients. To my big surprise, the BF said that the soup was the best thing that I have made for him in 3 years. He also said that my Gnocchi was on point!

I dont want to toot my own horn. I couldnt get enough of the dishes and the flavor. Boyfriend only had compliments, the biggest of which was finishing of the whole pot. I did not know that I was a Korean Chef in a previous life ๐Ÿ™‚ Surprising but I will take the win!!

I struggle with lazy days…

Daily writing prompt
Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

Lazy days are 1000% a struggle for me. Sounds silly that being lazy would be a struggle but for someone who is constantly on the go with one thing or another, its hard to just be still. The thing I have to tell myself is there’s a difference between lazy and rest.

When I hear lazy, at least what I picture is me in worn pajamas, in a messy bed, some kind of fast food in hand and laundry piled up. May or may not have showered that day lol. Lazy to me means everything has stopped and the house is a mess, with no intention to clean or do anything. This type of lazy, unless I am sick, I just cant wrap my head around. I always feel guilty if Im not doing at least something. For sure I feel unproductive.

Now rest is different from lazy. This is what I try to do. Rest is needed for physical and mental health and we are all in short supply of those things lately. On my rest days, I dont try to do nothing but instead I try do do things that are relaxing and things that help me get recentered or refocused for the day or week. For example, I make it a point to read. It relaxes my mind and it can be a fictional journey or a self help motivation type book. If its in the budget Pedicures go a long way for relaxing too.

Then there are the things that I do to help me get rest for the week. I enjoy getting my laundry folded and put away. Its a simple chore that doesnt take much time or focus. I also cook with my family. Dual purpose because I of course need to eat but with family or friends some times I can enjoy company while I leave the regular stress of the wekk behind. If there is time, there is always a warm bubble bath calling my name to rest for the night.

Typing the words, I still have to tell myself that resting is ok and that some days are not going to be “productive”. But from experience I know that If I do not take a lazy day here or there I will burn out and be unproductive for sure. So I opt for little breaks, sometimes an hour outdoors to clear my mind, others its a full day of binge watching and organizing. Call it what you will but do your best not to feel that guilt that whispers to you when there are “more productive things you could be doing”. Whats important is that you recognize the need for a break and are giving yourself that time. And if you cant remember I hope you have someone like my boyfriend who always tells me I need time for myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

Self-care Reflections: What are yours??

Daily writing prompt
What details of your life could you pay more attention to?

If you are anything like me, life seems to go non stop. From working three jobs, helping aging parents, helping with a nephew and trying to have some down time on vacations, there is never really a quiet moment. Schedules area always packed and things come up and we know we cant forget about cooking and eating dinner.

I have noticed lately that I have not been giving myself the same self care that I have had in the past. It sounds superficial but I have not been going for my haircuts or my pedicures. On a more physical level I have also not made it a priority to get my gym time in. Some days I hate the gym but I still feel accomplished when I drag myself there. lol

Being tired means alot of the little things just dont get done. The motivation or energy just isnt there. I have realized the list of things to do in a day isnt going to get smaller so instead I am just going to add a few more to this month to see if I can regain a bit of sanity. Laugh if you want but I dare you to make your own self care list. Here are my 5 things and reasons that I am making them priority.

  1. Lipstick and Mascara every day. – I am going to pick a few different colors that make me feel pretty and boss like. I dont have time in the mornings with getting ready for school to do a full routine. These two take less that 3 minutes and I will feel more ready for the day in my professional world.
  2. New Sheets. – Silly to buy something I already have but even your bed routine can get tired. We are coming into fall and I want to feel snuggly and comfy when I hit the pillow.
  3. One mid month Spa day.- yes one day can be spared to do a little self maintenance. Hair cut, facial, mani/pedi. Its a day to relax and you feel brand new to face the challenges.
  4. Two dinners with friends- With how busy I am lately, I only have had time with my nephew and close family. Not that there is anything wrong with that. But I dont get to just be me, to hear about life outside of my world, to laugh with others. It could be work friends, business minded friends or just my girl friends that I dont get hang with as we have crazy schedules.
  5. Flavored water- ok so maybe not a must have. I had some testing done recently and 2 of the issues with my bloodwork were b12 deficiency and dehydration. So I have been trying to water myself ๐Ÿ™‚ I only like water with ice and it does nothing to quench the soda craving. So I am going to “splurge” on flavor packets. They can be refreshing.

I would love to hear what small things you would do through out the month to treat yourself better. not always just a splurge but something small that makes you happy or feel better. Leave your comments and thoughts here and maybe someone else will do something similar. Pay attention to the daily details that support you ๐Ÿ™‚
