Try new things = Broken wrist

There was a brief period in my life that I was down to try almost anything just to change up the day to day. Go to new activities, meet with different groups of people, listen to new things etc. I think it might have lasted a year or so. Any way, I quickly learned that I am not the best athlete out there and have since stuck to writing this blog.

I will preface the wrist story here with my first not so Olympic champion incident. A coworker of mine was really into Jujitsu to the point where him and his wife were in tournaments on the weekend. Their instructor wanted to promote the team and offered a self defense class. I grabbed a friend and went for the day. No harm in learning to defend yourself right? Well yes and no.

They taught us some escape moves and then moved into the intro for the real training of Jujitsu. The first thing they teach you is how to fall so that you can escape or get into a defensive stance easily. Bet you guessed it. I messed this up. Maybe three tuck and rolls in I landed on my shoulder, heard a pop and immediately was in pain. I went to get checked out, thankfully the pop was just bone moving but unfortunately I did pinch a nerve and it took a few days to work it out.

I recovered and moved on. I didn’t think too much of it being a recurring event. A few months after, I went to a friends party and there I met, my now good friend Kim. We talked and had a good connection, both of us being fun and single, unlike most of our friends. I asked our mutual connection for her number and we got together for a coed volleyball game. Not exactly new to the sport but new to coed sports and to the group.

We split into teams and started paying sets. At the time, my last attempt at volleyball was high school gym class. So I already knew this would be interesting. A few back and forths and I thought I was doing ok. Up til the serve. The hottest guy there, stepped back and jumped served a ball my way. Not having any of the skills I should have, instead of getting under it, I swung at it, kind of punching it, like punching someone straight on and in the face. Worst decision ever.

The force and the angle of the spike with my wrist straight, shot a pain all the way up my arm. A couple of loud cuss words were thrown out and I was holding my arm. of course it swelled up right away. Mr. Hottie came over to check on me and apologize for how hard he hit it. I. of course, tried to play it off but was seeing stars at this point. On my way to the bathroom, I was dizzy and almost passed out. I sat out the rest of the night, no shocker there.

Kim came to check on me. I told her it felt like a really bad sprang or something broke because I haven’t been in pain like that before. She said I would be fine and that “nobody breaks their wrist playing volleyball”. Hand raise, its me. I did. I went in the next morning for X-rays. Clean break in my radius, thankfully it wasn’t closer to the smaller bones in my wrist or it would have been a surgery.

It was my first and hopefully only broken bone. I have been lucky or maybe just not as adventurous and daring as others. But since these two events, if anyone asks me to try anything new that is sports related my answer is “hard pass” lol.

Creating a Coastal Retreat

xr:d:DAFjpGuUBe8:346,j:2560693575572060448,t:23072105

Creating a Coastal Vibe in Your Home

My inspirations come from my clients. My client yesterday wanted her home out here to feel more like here home on the east coast. How about you? Are you dreaming of a coastal retreat right in the comfort of your own home? With a few simple design choices, you can transform any space into a serene oasis that captures the essence of beach living. In this blog post, we will explore some tips and tricks for creating a coastal vibe that will transport you to the seaside, even if you’re miles away.

Maintaining an Airy Feel

The key to achieving a coastal vibe is to create an airy and light-filled space. Start by using a very light shade base for your walls, which will give the room a fresh and clean look. To add a touch of the ocean, this shade should incorporate hints of blue or green. You can expand on this through accessories such as throw pillows, curtains, or artwork. By using these hushed tones, you will create a calming and soothing atmosphere that mimics the colors of the sea.

Adding Accent Walls

To further enhance the coastal feel, consider adding accent walls in slightly deeper blues or greens, keeping them in soft muted tones. This can be achieved by using paint, wallpaper (in solid colors or patterns), or even textured wall panels. The accent wall will serve as a focal point in the room and will instantly transport you to a beachside paradise. Choose colors that complement the rest of the space and create a cohesive look.

Bringing in Beach Textures

To truly capture the essence of coastal living, incorporate beach textures into your home. One way to achieve this is by opting for worn wood vinyl flooring, or distressed wooden pieces. This type of flooring mimics the look of weathered wood found on the beach and adds a rustic touch to the space. Pair it with cream or sand-colored cabinets and shelving to create a cohesive and beach-inspired look.

Sea Glass and Shell Accents

No coastal-inspired space is complete without sea glass and shell accents. Incorporate these elements into your decor by using tiles with sea glass or shell patterns in your bathroom or kitchen. You can also display sea glass and shells in clear jars or bowls as decorative accents throughout your home. These small touches will add a touch of the beach to your space and create a sense of tranquility.

Creating a coastal vibe in your home is all about capturing the essence of the beach and bringing it indoors. By maintaining an airy feel, adding accent walls in muted tones, bringing in beach textures, and incorporating sea glass and shell accents, you can transform any space into a coastal retreat. So go ahead, embrace the coastal lifestyle and create your own little piece of paradise. And when you can, get to the actual beach and enjoy the sand under your toes!!

Bringing the Outside In: Adding Texture to Your Home

Many modern homes today feature smooth walls and polished granite surfaces, creating a sleek and polished look. While this aesthetic can be visually appealing, it can also feel a bit one-dimensional and lacking in character. If you’re looking to add some depth and visual interest to your living space, consider incorporating different textures into your home decor.

1. Incorporating Slate and Rock

One way to introduce texture into your home is by using slate or rock accents. For example, you can add a slate or rock facade around your indoor fireplace to create a focal point in your living room. The natural variations in color and texture will instantly add visual interest and make your fireplace stand out. In the bathroom, consider using river rock tiles for your shower floor or as a border to add a touch of nature and create a spa-like atmosphere. In the kitchen, slate countertops can provide a pop of color and an edgy, contemporary look. Opt for honed finished granite with a weathered edge to add a touch of rustic charm to your kitchen island or bar area.

2. Adding Texture to Floors

If you’re tired of the smooth and uniform look of traditional flooring materials, consider opting for rustic or weathered wood or tile. These materials add warmth, character, and texture to your floors. Weathered wood flooring, for example, features a distressed look that adds a sense of history and charm to any room. Rustic tile with a textured finish can create a visually interesting pattern and add depth to your floors. Whether you choose wood or tile, textured flooring can make a significant impact on the overall look and feel of your home.

3. Embracing Natural Elements

Another way to bring texture into your home is by incorporating natural elements. Consider using woven or textured fabrics for your curtains, throw pillows, and upholstery to add depth and visual interest to your living room or bedroom. You can also bring in natural materials such as jute or sisal rugs to add texture to your floors. Additionally, consider incorporating plants and greenery into your home decor. Not only do plants add a touch of nature, but their varied shapes and textures can also bring a refreshing and organic feel to any space.

In conclusion, adding texture to your home is a great way to bring the outdoors in and create a more visually interesting and dynamic living space. Whether you choose to incorporate slate and rock accents, textured flooring, or natural elements, these design choices will add depth and character to your home decor. So, don’t be afraid to experiment and have fun with different textures to create a unique and inviting atmosphere in your home.

The things you can control..

This is one thing that I absolutely struggle with. Sometimes my thoughts get dragged down into the what ifs and the maybes or the worries that sneak in during the day. I do my best to focus on the here and now but every once in a while I start thinking about the negative things that can happen.

Right now, I am working on my next goal. That is my real estate license. I went to take the state exam last week and their computer systems went down. I was in a group of eight people at that center that had to leave without taking the test and reschedule. I had already waited two weeks to schedule that appointment. My mind has taken me down the negative road. The what ifs are creeping in. What if I cant get in for another month? What if I cant apply for a job thats right for me if I dont have that license? What if I pass one part but not the other?

These are valid questions but they are future scenarios. I have no idea what the reschedule timeline will look like. What I do know is that I have extra time to study and can be more prepared to pass both parts of the test when it is scheduled. Knowing ill be more prepared makes me positive vs worrying about the rest makes it negative,

We dont know what road blocks, downed computers or life events will come our way. There is absolutely no way we can plan what the future has in store but we can work towards what we want and what we can control. Control your thoughts to look for the positive, to work on the things you definitely do. I will be studying tonight. I will be posting blogs and I will be looking for real estate opportunities. I am positive that I am on a better road even with the bumps along the way. It helps so much to narrow your focus to what you can change. Hope you guys will focus on them too!!

Creating a Captivating Steampunk Library

Creating a Steampunk Library: Embracing Rich Colors and Industrial Finishes

Steampunk, a subgenre of science fiction and fantasy, is known for its unique blend of Victorian aesthetics and steam-powered technology. One of the most intriguing aspects of steampunk design is the creation of themed spaces, such as steampunk libraries. In this article, we will explore the key elements and design choices that can help you create a captivating steampunk library.

Embracing Rich Colors and Wood and Metal Finishes

When it comes to the color palette of a steampunk library, rich and dark tones are the way to go. Consider using dark browns, blues, and greys for the walls. Dark paneling or paint can be applied from floor to ceiling to create a sense of depth and richness. These colors provide a perfect backdrop for the steampunk aesthetics.

Wood and metal finishes are essential in steampunk design. Incorporate these materials into the library by using furniture and fixtures with these finishes. For example, consider adding bookshelves made of dark wood with metal accents or a desk with a brass or bronze finish. These elements will help create an authentic steampunk atmosphere.

Industrial Lighting Fixtures and Elegant Furniture

Lighting fixtures play a crucial role in steampunk design. Opt for industrial-style lighting fixtures made of bronze or black metals. These fixtures can be adorned with golden accents to add a touch of elegance. Hang pendant lights or install wall sconces to illuminate the library and enhance the overall steampunk aesthetic.

When it comes to furniture, choose pieces that are both rich and elegant. Steampunk libraries often feature heavier furniture with velvet upholstery. Consider selecting furniture with tufted designs and metal buttons for added sophistication. Rich leathers can also be used to create a luxurious and timeless feel.

Decorative Pieces: Clocks, Gears, and Engines

Decorative pieces are essential in bringing a steampunk library to life. To tie in with the color scheme, incorporate gold, green, and deep purple accents throughout the space. Clocks, gears, and engines are iconic steampunk elements that can be used as decorative pieces. Display vintage clocks on shelves, hang gears on the walls, or even repurpose old machinery as unique focal points.

Additionally, consider incorporating other steampunk-inspired accessories such as magnifying glasses, compasses, or antique globes. These small details will add depth and character to your steampunk library.

Fireplaces as Center Focal Points

A fireplace can become a central focal point in a steampunk library. Choose a fireplace with a heavy and ornate design to match the overall aesthetic. Consider adding decorative elements such as metal candelabras or vintage fireplace tools to enhance the steampunk theme. The fireplace can serve as a statement piece, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your library.

In conclusion, creating a steampunk library involves carefully selecting colors, materials, and decorative elements to achieve a unique and captivating space. Embrace rich colors, wood and metal finishes, industrial lighting fixtures, and elegant furniture. Incorporate decorative pieces that tie in with the steampunk theme, such as clocks, gears, and engines. Finally, consider making the fireplace a center focal point to add warmth and character to your steampunk library.

Creating a Dream Scape Room

Inspiration for a Dream Scape Room

This week, two things came to mind that inspired me to create a dream scape room. First, the cloudy days made me crave a cozy space to snuggle up in. Second, two of my cousins are pregnant and they are having baby showers, which got me thinking about creating a special area for the little ones.

Creating Calm

To create a calming atmosphere, it is important to choose the right shade of gray. Grays can come in different shades and undertones, but for this particular space, it is recommended to use cool grays with a bluish hue. These shades of gray, when combined with the warm glow of the lighting, will help to create a soothing and relaxing ambiance. The cool grays will bring a sense of tranquility to the room, while the bluish undertones will add a touch of serenity. The overall effect will be a space that evokes a calm and peaceful feel, perfect for unwinding and finding rest.

Cozy Seating for Rocking Baby or for Reading

One of the main features of this dream scape room will be a cozy sitting area. This space will be perfect for snuggling up with a good book or for spending quality time with the baby. I envision a comfortable armchair or a plush sofa, adorned with soft blankets and pillows. I might even suggest a swinging chair, more for an adult nook space. Woven or Boho style baskets or hampers can be close by for baby clothes or reading blankets and pillows.

Build-in Shelves for Books or Baby Things

To make the room both practical and stylish, I plan to include built-in shelves. These shelves will serve a dual purpose – they can be used to display books for the avid reader or to store baby essentials for the new parents. Adding in closed cabinets for things that are not everyday use will keep the clutter at a minimum. The shelves will be designed to blend seamlessly with the overall aesthetic of the room, using cool whites and incorporating soft grays/blue hues into the back panels. Frosted or tinted glass could also enhance the soft look.

Fluffy Textures, Cool Colors and Stars

To create a dreamy atmosphere, I will incorporate fluffy textures throughout the room. Think plush rugs, soft curtains, and cozy blankets. The color palette will consist of whites, cool grays, and hints of blue. These colors will be reminiscent of cloudy skies and will create a serene and calming ambiance. To add a touch of magic, I will also incorporate star motifs, whether through wallpaper, decals, or artwork.

Warm Lighting for a Glow and an Inviting Feel

Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood of a room. In this dream scape room, I will use warm lighting to create a soft glow. This will make the space feel inviting and cozy. I will incorporate various light fixtures, such as sconces or pendant lights, to add a touch of elegance to the room. Fairy lights, crystal lights or twinkle lights could be added for magical touches.

Brushed Nickel and Crystal Hardware

To add a touch of sophistication, use silver or crystal hardware for the cabinets. You could even incorporate a design knob. This will elevate the overall design and give the room a luxurious feel. This finish can also be used for artwork, photo frames and additional decorative pieces placed on the shelving. The sleek and modern appearance will complement the rest of the room’s aesthetic.

In conclusion, creating a dream scape room inspired by cloudy days and the anticipation of new arrivals can result in a cozy and magical space. By incorporating cozy seating, built-in shelves, fluffy textures, a serene color palette, warm lighting, and elegant hardware, the room will become a haven for relaxation, reading, and dreaming. You can find these items in my Amazon Shop should any of them be a wonderful addition to your relaxation room. They will be posted later this week.

Stay tuned for more Whimsical Palettes this week!!

Milestone!!

Yesterday I posted my 100th post on this platform. And while that may not seem like a lot to some, that was a lot of work for me. I started this in January of 2022. That’s right. More than 2 years ago. There were periods where I just didn’t have things to write and there were times when I really got into it. And of course there were days when I wondered who is going to read anything I have to write?

Well despite the self doubt, I do have a few subscribers and now that I am in business I hope to inspire more. Over the last 7 years, I have done a great deal of self help. I have listened to audios, read self help books, been on teams with great leadership, found strength within. You name it, I have probably done some form of it. But somewhere in there, I have heard that getting to the first 100 of anything is the most difficult. You cant expect things to take off from your second post. or even your 50th.

So when I started this, my main thing was that I wasn’t going to quit or give up until I hit 100. We you hit publish and look at the posts, its hard not to think about getting to a goal faster. the last 10 post I really wanted to speed through just so I can say I made it. It is a small accomplishment but now I am motivated to keep going. My new goal is to do another 100 posts in 6 months. I feel that with my business and new topics coming up I am on a roll and can do this!

I hope that you will join me and interact with the posts that are coming! As I get more clients I am inspired to share their design challenges or the palettes that we come up with. As I continue to press forward and learn more I will also share the encouraging thoughts or word I hear. Daily life is our best inspiration and our best teacher. Come with me as I build more clients and color more spaces!! 200 posts here we come!

Abracadabra!!

Okay, Okay it might sound a bit cheesy. Most of the time when some one says that word a wand is waved or a rabbit is pulled from a hat. But what most people don’t know is the original Hebrew meaning of the word. And it goes much deeper than a magic wand.

In the original Hebrew, the word Abracadabra translates to “I create as I speak”. This resonates with me more even now that I am working on myself and this new business. The deep meaning truly is about the way that we speak to ourselves and our belief that we have a purpose.

Everyday, I remind myself that I am working toward a brighter future. For me, I am creating a business that will create a good life for my family. I am creating relationships that make me stronger. I am speaking into the universe, while visualizing and giving my best effort to build what a see.

Its a version, at least to me of “speaking your truth”. What I want out of this life is to know that I did the things I said I would to feel how I wanted. I am happy, I am blessed, I am loved. I built a home. I built a family. I made my dreams reality. Keep telling yourself the things you want to change, to do, or to have. Speak it into being.

Level Up Your Stairs with Stylish Finishes and Materials

My client today was getting her new home ready for their move in. They had already removed and replaced new flooring, I was there for for the paint selections, and last on her list was what should be done with the stairs. We discussed options, some of which are below. Hopefully, these will give you some inspiration for your grand staircase!

Enhance Your Stairs with a Carpet Runner

If you’re looking to level up the look of your stairs, consider adding a carpet runner. While carpet is nice, a carpet runner can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your staircase. Not only does it provide a stylish finish, but it also protects your stairs from wear and tear.

Opt for a Wood Finish or Paint

When choosing a carpet runner, you have the option to add a wood finish or paint to your stairs. This allows you to create a two-toned look with different finishes for the treads and risers. For example, you can have the treads in a rich wood finish while the risers are painted in a complementary color. This adds visual interest and dimension to your staircase.

Explore Different Materials for Treads

Gone are the days when treads were limited to just wood. Nowadays, you can choose from a variety of materials for your treads, including vinyl and other flooring materials. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for your staircase design. By keeping the materials consistent on both levels, you can create a seamless and cohesive look throughout your home.

Consider Wooden or Decorative Metal Balusters and Posts

When it comes to balusters and posts, you have the choice between wooden or decorative metal options. Wooden balusters and posts offer a classic and timeless look, while decorative metal adds a modern and contemporary touch. Consider the overall style of your home and choose the option that best complements your aesthetic.

Opt for Dark Metal or Painted Handrails

To complete the look of your staircase, pay attention to the handrails. Dark metal or dark painted handrails are currently on-trend and can provide a modern twist to a traditional piece. This contrast adds visual interest and creates a focal point in your staircase design.

Go Truly Modern or Contemporary Look with Steel

For a truly modern update, transform your stairs by ditching the traditional handrails and posts. Instead, opt for the sleek industrial look with steel railings. This contemporary choice will instantly revamp your staircase and give it a fresh, edgy vibe. Steel railings exude a sense of modernity and sophistication, adding a touch of elegance to any space. Not only do they provide a sturdy support system for those using the stairs, but they also serve as a statement piece, creating a focal point in your home. Whether you prefer a minimalist design or something more intricate, steel railings can be customized to suit your aesthetic preferences. So, say goodbye to the outdated and embrace the modernity of steel railings for a stunning staircase transformation.

By following these tips, you can level up the look of your stairs and transform them into a stunning focal point in your home. Whether you choose a carpet runner, experiment with different materials, or play with contrasting finishes, your staircase will become a true statement piece.
